Mistakes to Avoid During RV Camping

On May 6, 2020

Mistakes are a part of one’s life. It’s okay to make mistakes, given we learn from them. RV Camping is more like a sport than just a fun vacation. With sports comes adventure that may be dangerous if proper precautions are not taken. Here are a few mistakes that should be avoided when RV Camping:

  1. Going too far, too fast:

Going too far and too fast on the roads may get out of control. The speed may not be controllable. So, it would be better to stay safe and just drive cautiously under certain limits.

  1. Buying the wrong RV:

Depending on what kind of journey you plan to take in the RV, you need to pick the RV. Whether you are planning to go solo or with family, whether it’s going to be short distances or really long trips, consider all the factors before you buy / rent the RV.

  1. Not bringing in the awning:

The awning in the RV is a great help. It provides you with shade, let’s you enjoy your outdoor space even when raining, etc. But leaving your awning outside is a grave mistake. The awning can break and fall over you due to overloaded water crowding on it or heavy winds.

  1. Forgetting to disconnect:

Just like you pack the cable charger of your laptop, it is advised to disconnect and pack your sewage line before hitting the road. It might just save you from a lot of trouble.

  1. Not following camp etiquette:

Camp etiquette are an important set of regulations one should bide to, to avoid any inconvenience. Be a good neighbor, socialize with other campers, clean up your trash, even after you leave the RV, clean up after your pets and put them on a leash, etc.

  1. Level your RV:

Always level your RV before heading anywhere, or at least check if it is leveled or not. You wouldn’t want to walk a hill every time you have to go from your bathroom to your bed.

  1. Packing too much:

RVs too are capable of handling a certain amount of weight. Packing a lot may cause malfunctioning of the breaks or other parts of the RV. And you would want to stay out of it.

  1. Forgetting to pack necessities:

In the haste to pack too much unnecessary luggage, make sure to not miss out on your necessities. You don’t know when you could be dealing with a crisis of basics. Always carry your own.

  1. Not making a checklist:

Not making a checklist may, the chances of forgetting some essentials is much higher. You would also know if you brought everything back home so that nothing is left behind.

  1. Check and Recheck:

Every time before you ride the RV, check everything about it, the breaks, the outsides, the gear, etc. This saves you from facing fatal injuries in case of any miscarriage.

  1. Never defrosting the fridge:

RV refrigerators are not the same as the regular ones. Over time, they form ice in the back of the freezer.  Make sure you defrost the fridge every once in a while you can keep your food outside until the ice has melted away. Also, keep the door open once you are done with your stay, it avoids the stale smell from it for the next person who uses it.

  1. Not learning how to drive an RV:

RV’s are not the same as cars and you need to spend some time driving a RV to get familiar with it. They are heavier, have different functionalities and are a slight bit more different than driving a regular car. You don’t want to take any risks with this!

  1. Not packing enough or too much food:

Packing too much food or not enough food, both situations should be avoided. When carrying too much food, you may face a lack of space in your refrigerators. On the other hand, while carrying insufficient food may result in shortage of food or less options to eat, especially when you are planning to drive in an RV on remote places.

  1. Not making reservations:

Just like hotel rooms, RV Parks are usually reserved too, since they are coming back into the trend. You may not get a spot for your RV for many reasons, availability of any free RVs, some RVs may offer availability for seniors, etc. If you happen to be in College Station, Texas, then you can book our RV Resort as well.

  1. Not planning your route:

It is indeed adventurous and thrilling to go unaware of the roads, to really just explore everything around. But, sometimes this may cost you to lose your way back. RVs are not like cars and are rather harder to turn around and get out of trouble, if you get in any, due to their size. So ensure that you have mapped your route properly.

  1. Leaving curtains up at night:

Most RV parks have RVs lined up pretty close to each giving a crystal clear image of what’s happening inside your RV. So, when you are going to sleep, be sure to put the curtains down so no one can take a sneak peek.

  1. Ignoring sounds and signs that something is wrong:

RVs are complex vehicles and suggest that you get familiar with its parts. You don’t want to ignore the sounds of something cracking up or a nut getting out because you thought it was probably nothing! Some attention towards these little things may save you from an accident on the road.

  1. Not learning how to park:

RVs are tough to park. It’s a big vehicle, and it’s not even close to the same thing as parking a car. Make sure while learning how to drive an RV, you also know how to correctly park it.

Hope you don’t commit any of these mistakes and stay safe while you can still fully enjoy your RV Camping trip. It is better to be safe than sorry. (Xanax bars)
