Handling Pets at an RV Park

On May 6, 2020

Vacationing is a great way to bond with family and friends, but your little paw friends always get left out on this fun, adventurous trip and are instead found in some dark, rented kennel. Doesn’t it break your heart to not be able to bring them along with you? Not anymore! Karstens RV Resort is a Pet Friendly RV Resort in College Station that allows you to bring your pets RVing with you under our pet policy. Here are some points to keep in mind while taking your pets with you:

  1. Follow the rules of the road:

Your pets love you and would want to be with you at all times, even while driving. This might distract you and can prove to be dangerous for you and your pet. Hence, it is very important for you to keep your pets on a leash while driving and follow the rules.

  1. The Essentials:

Don’t forget to pack the essentials that your pet needs while outing. For example, a leash, litter boxes/waste pick up bags, their toys, their brush, a crate, their sweater/clothes, and their meal bowl. This would save you from a lot of trouble on the trip.

If you have a habit of forgetting things, put up a note on your refrigerator or any place you would look at before leaving the house.

  1. Pet ID:

Make sure you give your pets an updated ID. Pets often love open grounds and spaces and run to play if not under watch for even a minute. You don’t want to waste hours searching only to know god forbid, that you can’t find your pets anymore. Only if you had given your pet an ID with your name, contact details, etc. anyone who found your pet has reported it to you.

  1. Carry all the necessary documents:

Keep all the necessary documents with you at all times, wherever you go. For instance, vaccination records, proof of ownership, photographs, paperwork for any other ailment or injuries, etc…

  1. First-Aid kit:

Always carry a first aid kit, not just for you but for your dog too. Before taking them along on a trip, visit your vet and ask them for the basic things to carry in a first aid kit and also talk about any other precautionary measures to be taken.

  1. Get them accustomed to a leash:

One of the most basic and important rules at the RV park is to have your pets on a leash at all times when outside an RV. While most pets are accustomed to a leash, others may not be. It is very important that you train your pets to get accustomed to a leash at all times so that in the end, they don’t feel any sort of discomfort.

  1. Unpredictable weather:

Weather is an unpredictable phenomenon, one time it could be bright and sunny, while at midday it can rain. Make sure your pets are at ease even in situations like changes in weather. Leaving the windows open may not be the best option, due to the chances of the breeze heating the insides of the RV or rainwater coming in, etc…

The best option is to turn up the air-conditioning and pull the ventilator on, just in case the air conditioning doesn’t work.

  1. Campground rules:

Make sure that you strictly abide by the rules of the RV Resort. If you violate the rules at the RV resort, you might be asked to leave the campground. Therefore, it is necessary that you are thorough with the rules of the RV Resort.

Please check out our pet policy to avoid any future inconvenience.

  1. Make them a special space:

Just like back home, where your pets have a special place to relax, make your pets a special place in the RV, just so that they feel at home.

  1. Bugs:

Traveling with your pets can mean bug issues. To save your furry friends from this inconvenience, be thorough about the bugs found in the region, groom your pets often, and look for any fleas or ticks, etc…

  1. Emergency contacts of the area:

Have the emergency contacts of the area, like the doctor’s number for you and a vet’s number for your pet.

Having your pet chipped and registered is a good safety measure too.

  1. Border crossings:

Usually traveling pets is not an issue, but you may have to follow some rules and regulations in some regions. For full details, visit the official government websites just to be sure you don’t miss out on any document that might be needed.

  1. Pet backpack:

Carry a small backpack for your pets wherever you take them, just the basic stuff. This way you can organize your stuff and you don’t have to panic about leaving anything behind. You can carry food, water, leash, pick up bags, toys, and treats. It might be a little more challenging with a big dog, but at least carrying the basics would do no harm.

We hope you keep in mind these little things to make sure you and your pet have a safe trip and you can make the best memories out of it. Please make sure to read our RV Resort Pet Policy for more details.
